Filmmaker Cary Fukunaga (“True Detective,” “Jane Eyre,” “Sin Nombre”) will direct a feature film adaptation of the cyberpunk Image Comics series “Tokyo Ghost” for Legendary.

The story is set in 2089 when humanity has become fully addicted to technology as an escape from reality. Peacekeepers Debbie Decay and Led Dent, who are working in the Isles of Los Angeles, are given a job that will take them to the last tech-free country on Earth – the garden nation of Tokyo.

The comic was penned by Rick Remender (“Fear Agent”) and Sean Gordon Murphy (“Chrononauts”) and Remender is set to write the Legendary project. Fukunaga, Jon Silk and Hayden Lautenbach will produce.

The project comes as Fukunaga, currently directing the first three episodes of Apple’s World War II series “Masters of the Air,” finally sees his most recent feature “No Time To Die” hit cinemas this coming October after eighteen months of delays.
