Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. is teaming with FNCPR and developer Tanglewood Games to release the first-person adventure video game “John Carter: Warlord of Mars” based on the literary hero.
A Kickstarter campaign launches on April 19th with the key cast set including David Elliot voicing John Carter, Brian Bovell as Tars Tarkas and Kezia Burrows as Princess of Mars Dejah Thoris.
The story is set in 1945 as soldier John Carter works on a mission to find Hitler’s secret projects general, Hans Kammler. Stumbling upon experimental technology, Carter finds himself transported to the far-flung land of Barsoom.
Check out the announcement video for the campaign below which indicates some work appears to have already been done, though no finished game footage is shown.
The property was the subject of a Disney 2012 big-budget live-action adaptation starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Dominic West and Willem Dafoe. It took in $306 million, only a little more than the production budget of $286 million.
