Trailer: LaKeith Stanfield Is “Yasuke”

Netflix has released the first trailer for “Yasuke,” its upcoming anime series starring “Judas and The Black Messiah” and “Sorry to Bother You” star LaKeith Stanfield as the voice of the titular black samurai.

The six-episode series is set in a war-torn feudal Japan of mechs and magic. The greatest ronin never known, Yasuke, struggles to maintain a peaceful existence after a past life of violence.

When a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo, Yasuke must take up his sword and transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords.

LeSean Thomas (“Cannon Busters”) created the series and serves as director and executive producer. Grammy-nominated musician Flying Lotus handles the music while Studio Mappa does the animation.

“Yasuke” will premiere April 29th on Netflix.
