A large cast of talent has assembled for “Cut Snake” director and “Stateless” creator Tony Ayres and Belinda Chayko’s new six-part drama series “Fires” about the early 2020 massive wildfires that swept Australia.
Eliza Scanlen (“Sharp Objects”), Sam Worthington (“Avatar”), Anna Torv (“Mindhunter”), Sullivan Stapleton (“Strike Back”), Miranda Otto (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”), Daniel Henshall (“Snowtown”), Richard Roxburgh (“The Crown”), Hunter Page-Lochard (“Harrow”) and Noni Hazlehurst (“A Place to Call Home”) lead a cast that also includes Kate Box, Helana Sawires, Ameshol Ajang, Stacy Clausen and Nyawuda Chuol.
The series is inspired by extraordinary accounts from people who survived the catastrophe and will air on ABC in Australia and be released internationally via NBCUniversal Global Distribution.
Chayko, Jacquelin Perske, Mirrah Foulkes, Steven McGregor and Anya Beyersdorf penned the series while Ayres, Andrea Denholm and Liz Watts executive produce.
Michael Rymer (“Hannibal”), Ana Kokkinos (“Head On”) and Kim Mordaunt (“Wakefield”) will direct episodes and filming has officially commenced in Melbourne and around regional Victoria.
