Hugh Jackman and Laura Dern are teaming up to star in “The Son,” writer/director Florian Zeller’s follow-up to his current Oscar-nominated drama “The Father” starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman.
The film will be adapted by Zeller and Christopher Hampton from one of Zeller’s own stage plays, part of a trilogy of family-centric dramas that began with “The Father” and also includes “The Mother”.
In the story, Jackman plays a New York man with a busy life, a new partner Emma and a new baby. Their life is thrown into disarray when his ex-wife Kate (Dern) turns up with their troubled and angry teenage son Nicholas whose condition sets the family on a dangerous course.
While “The Father” explored the emotional impact of dementia, “The Son” will deal with adolescent depression. Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Joanna Laurie, and Christophe Spadone are producing “The Son” for See-Saw Films.
