One of the most famous traditions at the Oscars is the ‘In Memoriam’ section of the show – a musical montage reminding us of some of the great entertainment talents that passed away over the past year.
This year’s version however took a different approach – skipping a slow live song for Stevie Wonder’s “As” to propel a fast-paced version with no clips and with some going by so fast you’ll miss them if you blink.
Unlike in some year’s past though, the list is fairly up to date including such recent losses as Helen McCrory and DMX. There’s also a few notable absentees they missed such as Naya Rivera and Jessica Walter.
The Academy has released the clip which you can see below along with the 90-second Angela Bassett introduction. Mostly it’s a reminder of just how much great talent has been lost in the past year.
