HBO has announced that the “Game of Thrones” series prequel “House of the Dragon” has commenced production ahead of a 2022 airing on both HBO and HBO Max.
The shots show a COVID-safe table read with several key cast members including Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower and Steve Toussaint as The Sea Snake.
The series chronicles the rise and the downfall of the Targaryens, the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria, and is set three hundred years before the events of the original ‘Thrones’ series.
The ten-episode run also stars Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, and Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria. Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal serve as showrunners on the series.
