Hot on the heels of the announcement of Netflix acquiring global rights to the film, the first official teaser for Sony Pictures Animation’s musical “Vivo” is online.
The license deal will be similar to Netflix’s acquisition of Kevin Hart’s “Fatherhood” in that Sony will still retain the home entertainment and linear TV rights to all other territories (including a theatrical release in China) following its debut on the streamer.
Kirk DeMicco helms the project with “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda leading as the voice of the titular kinkajou (a rainforest ‘honey bear’). Gloria Estefan, Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, Zoe Saldana, Brian Tyree Henry, and Ynairaly Simo lend their voices.
Pulitzer Prize-winner Quiara Alegría Hudes penned the script while Miranda penned the songs.
