HBO Max has handed out a ten-episode order to “The Garcias,” a sequel to Nickelodeon’s early 2000s family comedy “The Brothers Garcia”.

The original series revolved around four children in a Mexican American family living in San Antonio, Texas. The new take finds the children grown up and gathering with their parents for a three-month summer vacation in a luxury home by the beach.

The six core original cast members – Ada Maris, Carlos Lacamara, Alvin Alvarez, Jeffrey Licon, Bobby Gonzalez and Vaneza Pitynski – will reprise their roles while a number of original writers, directors and crew members from the Nickelodeon series are signing on again.

Jeff Valdez serves as showrunner while Joey Gutierrez will be the head writer. Filming begins in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico in June.
