Henry Golding Turns Bad In “Persuasion”

Originally published on Dark Horizons by Garth Franklin

“Crazy Rich Asians” star Henry Golding will play Mr. Elliot opposite Dakota Johnson’s Anne Elliot in the new contemporary retelling of Jane Austen’s “Persuasion” at Netflix and MRC.

Ron Bass and Alice Victoria Winslow penned the script about Anne, a non-conforming woman with modern sensibilities living with her snobby family who are on the brink of bankruptcy.

When Frederick Wentworth – the dashing one she once sent away – crashes back into her life, she must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances.

Golding, who will next be seen in the “G.I. Joe” spin-off “Snake Eyes” in July, plays the callous and classic Austen foil. It marks a change for the Malaysian-British actor who is normally cast as the charming lead. Carrie Cracknell directs.
