“Watchmen” actress and “One Night In Miami” director Regina King has been tapped to helm “Bitter Root” for Legendary Pictures.
Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler and Sev Ohanian are onboard as producers on this film adaptation of the Harlem Renaissance-set comic book series that plays out against a vibrant 1924 New York City.
The story follows the Sangeryes, a fractured family of once-great monster hunters who hunt or cure those infected by a supernatural force that feeds off the prejudice of the era that transforms humans into monsters.
With most of their kin dead, the surviving Sangeryes have the unenviable choice to save or kill the creatures in hopes of thwarting an invasion.
The comic’s creators David F. Walker, Sanford Green and Chuck Brown will executive produce. Bryan Edward Hill, who is penning a new “Power Rangers” for eOne, is currently rewriting a draft of the screenplay.
King will next be seen in Netflix’s all-Black western “The Harder They Fall” helmed by The Bullitts (aka. Jaymes Samuel) and co-starring Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba, Delroy Lindo, Lakeith Stanfield and Zazie Beetz.
