Merle Dandridge (“Greenleaf,” “The Flight Attendant”), who voiced the character of Marlene in both the original 2013 “The Last of Us” game and 2020’s sequel, will reprise the role on screen in HBO’s scripted drama series adaptation.

The series revolves around the relationship between Joel (Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor of the collapse of modern civilization 20 years ago, and 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey) whom he’s hired to smuggle out of an oppressive quarantine zone.

Marlene is the head of the Fireflies, a resistance movement struggling for freedom against an oppressive military regime.

She marks the fourth announced cast member of the series with Gabriel Luna also onboard as Tommy, Joel’s younger brother.

Craig Mazin (“Chernobyl”) and the game’s creative director Neil Druckmann are penning the scripts for the series which will shortly begin production with a premiere likely in late 2022 or 2023.
