Boyega Exits Saulnier’s “Rebel Ridge”

John Boyega has exited “Green Room” and “Blue Ruin” director Jeremy Saulnier’s new movie “Rebel Ridge” several weeks after the Netflix feature started production on May 3rd in Louisiana.

The “Star Wars” actor has cited “family reasons” as the cause for his sudden exit. Production has paused and the streamer is currently working to replace the actor within the next few days. Netflix says in a statement they remain committed to the film and look forward to resuming production.

Boyega’s UpperRoom Productions label also produces the film, one of two Boyega has currently set with the streamer with the other being “They Cloned Tyrone” in which he also stars.

Don Johnson, James Badge Dale, James Cromwell, AnnaSophia Robb, Emory Cohen, Erin Doherty, Zsane Jhe and Al Vicente also star in “Rebel Ridge” which explores systemic inequality in America. Shooting was originally to begin April 2020 until the pandemic pushed it back over a year.
