Despite scoring rave reviews last year, HBO has revealed in a statement that Misha Green’s “Lovecraft Country” will NOT be returning for a second season.
Blending horror, period drama, historical figures, fantasy, sci-fi and social commentary, the ten-episode series starred Jonathan Majors and Jurnee Smollett with the first season finale hitting a series high audience of 1.5 million.
The series was based on Matt Ruff’s novel and thus followed that roadmap up until its end. In February, HBO’s chief content officer Casey Bloys said they would proceed if Mischa had a story to tell. From the looks of it, the decision was later made to not proceed.
J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions produced the series which is available now on HBO Max.
