Rumors of a Nintendo Switch Pro being released later this year have turned out to be only partially true – one is coming, but it’s not getting a processor or resolution boost.
Nintendo has just announced the Nintendo Switch OLED model. The new console biggest upgrade is the screen which goes from a 6.2 inch LED to a 7-inch OLED screen by shrinking the bezels – thus keeping the same form factor as the regular Switch.
Boasting a white and black color scheme as opposed to a dark grey one, the new system also features a wider stand with adjustable viewing angles in tabletop mode. There’s also a dock with a wired LAN port, enhanced audio and 64 GB of internal storage.
The shift to OLED allows for more vivid colors, true blacks, and much better off-angle viewing. The rumors of a performance boost or 4K gaming have not panned out though, the machine boasting otherwise the same specs as the regular Switch.
The upgraded system, also available in neon red/neon blue colors, will retail at $349.99 and be released on October 8th.
