Actor Anson Mount has revealed that filming has already begun on the final episode of the first season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” which follows the voyages of the pre-Kirk U.S.S. Enterprise.

The “Hell on Wheels” star confirmed the news on Twitter, adding that “old-school fans of the franchise” will be very pleased by what they’re doing with the show. The actor adds he’s also “getting to do many things I’ve never attempted as an actor. So much fun!”

The series sees Mount returning as the iconic Captain Christopher Pike alongside Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock – reprising the roles they previously played across the second season of “Star Trek: Discovery”.

Babs Olusanmokun, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Jess Bush and Melissa Navia co-star in the series which will adopt the old school Trek approach of mostly standalone episodes with a more optimistic/upbeat tone than most modern ‘Trek’ which has gone darker.

There’s still no release date at present for the series on Paramount+, though an early 2022 debut is most likely.
