Jennifer Lopez, Skydance and Concord are all teaming to develop a number of TV series and films based on Concord’s catalogue of musicals which includes the works of Rodgers & Hammerstein among others.
As part of the deal, Lopez will have an option to star in at least one of the projects (possibly more). The deal expands on a previous pact and covers the development of a modern-day set TV series based on Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!”.
The aim is to reimagine beloved, classic musicals for a 21st century audience. Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina will executive produce all projects stemming from the deal.
Concord’s theatricals arm has licenses to hundreds of Broadway musicals from “A Chorus Line” and “Hello Dolly” to “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Hair” and “Gypsy”. Selected works from Marvin Hamlisch, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Andrew Lloyd Webber are also a part of their catalogue ( but “Hamilton” does NOT fall under this pact).
