Three “Thrones” Animated Projects Planned

In January came word that HBO Max was developing an animated project set in the world of its “Game of Thrones” franchise.

Today, it has been reported that “at least” two more potential animated series have been added to that development slate.

One of those new two will be set in a territory never seen and only briefly referenced on the original series: The Golden Empire of Yi Ti – a region in Essos near the south-eastern limits of the known world.

The society is considered one of the oldest and most advanced societies in George R.R. Martin’s sprawling fantasy realm and is said to be inspired by Imperial China (while Westeros was inspired by Medieval Europe).

The news comes as one live-action prequel spin-off concept is no longer in the mix – the planned “Flea Bottom” series set in the King’s Landing slum.

The news comes as HBO Max ramps up its adult animation slate including the recently greenlit “Batman” animated series from producers J.J. Abrams and Matt Reeves.
