Hong Kong star Andy Lau has reportedly joined the cast of the sequel to Guo Fan’s Chinese sci-fi blockbuster “The Wandering Earth.”
The National Film Bureau’s website has reportedly revealed that censors have approved the sequel for production with plans to shoot in Qingdao and Haikou from October to March.
Original film star Wu Jing is confirmed to appear again despite his character’s fate in the first film. Guo will return to direct from a script he co-wrote with Gong Geer.
“Wandering Earth 2” is currently targeting a Chinese New Year’s release on January 22nd 2023. The first film, available worldwide outside China on Netflix, earned $691 million and remains China’s fourth highest grossing film of all time.
