“F9: The Fast Saga” and “Kin” scribe Daniel Casey has reportedly been hired to write the feature adaptation of the 1978 Japanese anime series “Battle of the Planets” for AGBO.
Casey will work with AGBO founders and “Avengers: Endgame” directors Joe and Anthony Russo, and original anime series creators Tatsunoko, to explore and expand the IP in-depth.
The plan is to construct the foundation for a screen universe and this feature screenplay will serve as the launchpad for a potential major franchise across multiple forms of media.
‘Battle’ is the famed 1970s Americanized version of the Japanese anime “Science Ninja Team Gatchaman”. The story follows five young orphans trained from a young age to form an elite, intergalactic team known as G-Force, swearing to protect Earth and its allies from otherworldly invading forces.
It was the most successful anime series in the U.S. during the late 1970s, broadcast nationally and helped introduce a generation to the world of Japanese animation. The Russos first announced development on the project exactly two years ago.
