“Halloween Ends” To Be More Contained

As we know the upcoming “Halloween Kills,” David Gordon Greens follow-up to 2018’s revival of the “Halloween” franchise, expands the scope of the first film into the “ultimate slasher movie”.

Those involved have talked up how this second of the planned ‘sequel trilogy’ gets many of the residents of Haddonfield involved as panic and anger in the wake of the first film’s events sweep the citizenry into a frenzy of mob justice.

Danny McBride, co-writer of the new trilogy of films, tells Total Film Magazine that ‘Kills’ is just brutal:

“There’s an incredible amount of killing in this movie. It’s so bloody. It’s wild. David [Gordon Green] just went for it. This is such a vicious sequel. It’s relentless…

The sequel is almost always where it s—s the bed. Or the monster is over-explained, or something happens that makes it into a joke. We really wanted to find a way to sidestep that.”

The new film is being followed by “Halloween Ends” coming out October next year which is expected to close the book on the story, and Producer Malek Akkad says that ‘Ends’ will be “way more contained” than ‘Kills’.

Green adds to the magazine that just as ‘Kills’ is deliberately different to the 2018 film, so ‘Ends’ will change things up again:

“I get engaged by doing something different. If I was just going to be repetitive, I would hand the reins off to someone else. When you have that opportunity within an established franchise, it’s really fun to think about how you can show different tones and perspectives and evolve.”

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis was also asked if these two films will be her last in the role of Laurie Strode and she says she thinks it will be:

“I would say, given what I know about the next movie, I think it will be the last time that I will play her. And I’m not saying something like, ‘Oh, because I die!’ It’s nothing to do with that. I’m talking about emotionally what they have constructed. I think it will be a spectacular way to end this trilogy.”

“Halloween Kills” is releasing on October 15th 2021 while “Halloween Ends” arrives October 14th 2022.
