The first trailer has arrived for the thirteenth season of “Doctor Who,” the clip premiering as part of the show’s panel at Comic-Con@Home earlier today.
Jodie Whittaker returns for her third (and rumored to be last) time around as The Doctor, with Mandip Gill back as Yasmin Khan. Joining them is the new companion John Bishop.
Showrunner Chris Chibnall confirms that due to the pandemic, the new season run has been shortened to eight episodes and this time will tell one serialised story across the run:
“Before we started making it, there were times when we thought we were going to be unable to do the show under Covid conditions this year… there were two ways you could go. You could go ‘let’s do lots of tiny little episodes in one room, with no monsters,’ or we could throw down the gauntlet and do the biggest story we’ve ever done.
We’re going to go to all kinds of different places, we’re going to have all kinds of characters and monsters, and it’s all going to be part of a bigger whole. It’s definitely the most ambitious thing we’ve done since we’ve been on the series.”
The new season is still in production but the crew expects its first episodes to arrive this year.
