A group of established talent from some of the best game development companies in the business is coming together to form a new independent studio – That’s No Moon.
Based in San Diego and Los Angeles, the aim of the studio is to craft a “new generation of narrative-driven, genre-defining experiences”.
Don’t expect ‘games as a service’ or multi-season multiplayer titles here – this is a studio that is going to be devoted to quality third-person, narrative-driven, single-player action-adventure games based on new IP.
No new game announcements were forthcoming with the company’s announcement, aside from teasing their current project which is an: “ambitious, new action-adventure game that will push the limits of both gameplay and story.”
South Korean developer and publisher Smilegate (“Crossfire”) has reportedly invested $100 million into the studio which aims to rapidly grow to around 100 members by 2022.
Leading the team are CCO Taylor Kurosaki and CDO Jacob Minkoff who worked on Naughty Dog’s “Uncharted 2 & 3” and “The Last of Us” along with the “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” reboot at Infinity Ward.
Also onboard are a bunch of PlayStation veterans including CEO Michael Mumbauer, COO Nick Kononelos, CFO George Allison and CSO Tina Kowalewski – the latter having worked for “God of War” developer Santa Monica Studios. CTO Barry Genova worked at original “Halo” trilogy and “Destiny” creators Bungie.
