The upcoming “The Tragedy Of Macbeth” serves as something of a surprise as Joel Coen is the only one being credited for the feature – not alongside his brother Ethan Coen.
So why is Ethan Coen not involved? It wasn’t clear until this week when their go-to composer Carter Burwell was asked by Score: The Podcast via (LA MAG) about why the two brothers didn’t work on the new ‘Macbeth’ together.
Turns out younger brother Ethan has lost interest in moviemaking… and his sibling may soon step away too:
“Ethan just didn’t want to make movies anymore. Ethan seems to be very happy doing what he’s doing, and I’m not sure what Joel will do after [Macbeth].”
Ethan Coen is actually staying true to his word, indicating almost two years he planned to “give movies a rest” and focus on his solo playwriting.
That doesn’t necessarily mean retirement from movies
