Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson has confirmed that production has begun on Marvel Studios’ “The Marvels,” a follow-up to “Captain Marvel” that is being helmed by new “Candyman” director Nia DaCosta.
“The Marvels” will see Larson’s Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel team with “WandaVision” breakout Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, and newcomer Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel whose show for Disney+ is currently in post-production.
Megan McDonnell penned the script for the film which also stars Zawe Ashton as the villain, while South Korean actor Park Seo-Joon has reportedly been cast as an undisclosed character.
In an interview on SiriusXM, Larson teased the scale of the film:
“[It’s] unlike anything else. Huge sets. Huge amounts of people on set. Lots of specialists. It’s a really unique experience. I’m a huge fan of Disneyland, so to me it feels like I get to go to my own private Disneyland every single day. Because they’re building all of these insane worlds that no one else knows about, no one else gets to see. You’ll see it when the movie comes out but for now, it’s just mine. I’m in sets that are bigger than you can imagine right now. It’s really special.”
The film joins four other MCU projects currently in production – “She-Hulk,” “Moon Knight,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”. “The Marvels” is currently set for a November 11th 2022 release.
