“Broken City” film scribe Brian Tucker has been hired to write the script for the long-gestating new feature film adaptation of Todd McFarlane’s “Spawn” comic at Blumhouse Productions.
McFarlane wrote the initial script which attracted actors like Jamie Foxx as Spawn and Jeremy Renner as Detective Twitch, but time has passed and it’s unclear if they’re still involved. Once a new script is done, the actors could be re-approached.
The comic follows a black-ops agent betrayed and sent to hell who makes a deal with a demon to return as a supernatural spawn of hell. However, five years have passed and his wife has moved on. The property was previously adapted into the poorly received 1997 live-action film and an acclaimed late 1990s HBO animated series.
McFarlane remains attached as director of this new version, and will produce alongside Jason Blum. Tucker is also writing a remake of “The Fugitive” for Warner Bros. Pictures.
