“Free Guy” star Ryan Reynolds says a sequel to this weekend’s action comedy is in the works.
The film sees Reynolds portraying a non-playable video game character named Guy in a popular game called ‘Free City’. Once he realizes he is living in a fictional game, Guy sets off on a quest to become the game’s hero
Posting to Twitter on Saturday, the actor says: “Aaaannnnd after 3 years messaging #FreeGuy as an original IP movie, Disney confirmed today they officially want a sequel. Woo hoo! #irony.”
20th Century Studios then retweeted that, while director Shawn Levy quote tweeted with the addition of: “Yuuuuuuuup.”
Joe Keery, Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Taika Waititi and Utkarsh Ambudkar co-star in the film which opened on Friday is reportedly headed for an estimated $26 million at the domestic box office this weekend.
The film is expected to run exclusively in theaters for 45 days which Disney CEO Bob Chapek says is due to a previous pay-one agreement with HBO. So no Disney+ Premier Access.
