Earlier this year Roku acquired the programming slate of the now-defunct Quibi short-form streaming service – one that included three Emmy nominated series – “Die Hart,” “Mapleworth Murders” and “Reno 911!”.
The content has now been rebranded as Roku Originals with 30 titles at launch and 23 more added last week – the former Quibi shows quickly became the top ten most-watched programs on the Roku Channel.
Today, Variety reports that Roku has ordered four additional episodes of “Reno 911!” for effectively an eighth season, with each of these to run a full half-hour. The order joins a potential revival of NBC’s cancelled “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” which is also under consideration.
Quibi revived the classic “Reno 911!” comedy series after eleven years for what were ultimately 25 shorts of up to ten minutes each. The new shorts were released in May and August last year.
