Warner Bros. Pictures has signed Swedish filmmaker Ninja Thyberg (“Pleasure”) to both write and direct a remake of 1987 fantasy-comedy “The Witches Of Eastwick”.
“Mad Max” filmmaker George Miller helmed the original film, an adaptation of John Updike’s 1984 novel of the same name, about three single women in a picturesque village who have their wishes granted, at a cost, when a mysterious and flamboyant man arrives in their lives.
Jack Nicholson, Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michelle Pfeiffer starred in that film. Thyberg is about to start writing the script for the new take, though it’s not clear if this will be more inspired by Updike’s book or Miller’s film.
Shoot will take place in the United States at a date to-be-determined. Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher will produce.
