Joel Edgerton and Sigourney Weaver have signed on to lead the cast of “First Reformed” director Paul Schrader’s new film “The Master Gardener”.

Edgerton will play Narvel Roth, a meticulous horticulturist at Gracewood Gardens who is as devoted to tending the grounds of this beautiful and historic estate as he is to pander to his wealthy dowager employer Mrs. Haverhill (Weaver).

When Mrs. Haverhill demands that Roth take on her wayward and troubled great-niece Maya as a new apprentice, chaos enters his spartan existence and unlocks dark secrets from a buried violent past that threatens them all.

The casting was unveiled at the start of the Venice International Film Festival where Schrader’s new Oscar Isaac-led film “The Card Counter” debuts in competition tomorrow.

Schrader penned the script for “The Master Gardener” and sales are expected to begin at the Toronto Film Festival.
