Netflix Sets “Seinfeld” October Launch

Netflix has finally set an October 1st premiere date for classic sitcom “Seinfeld”. All nine seasons of the series will be available from that date.

The streamer acquired global rights to the series in a $500 million deal with distributor Sony two years ago, but is only now adding the show to its streaming carousel. The show will depart its current residence on Hulu domestically and Amazon in select territories.

Netflix snagged the rights in September 2019 after WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal took back streaming rights for “Friends” and “The Office” from Netflix and put them on their own respective services – HBO Max and Peacock.

“Seinfeld” will also move to a new on-air home in October with ViacomCBS to air repeats on Comedy Central, TV Land and Paramount Network.
